Modifying the dye affinity of celullosic articles made of a cellulose solution in an aqueous tert. amine oxide, particularly fibers, comprises contacting with an aqueous aldehyde solution, fixing with a metal or ammonium salt catalyst and condensing to give increased dye fastness and wet modulus. Modifying the dye affinity of celullosic articles made of a cellulose solution in an aqueous tert. amine oxide, particularly fibers, comprises contacting with an aqueous aldehyde solution, fixing with a metal or ammonium salt as catalyst, condensing at increased temperature and washing. Independent claims are included for lyocell fibers comprising cotton wool with an increased wet modulus and fabrics made using these fibers and cotton wool.
