The front seat for a two-door car has a back rest (4) which can be inclined forwards to rest on the seat cushion (2). It is mounted on rails (5) which allow its position to be adjusted. These are fastened to the chassis by a pivot (5a) at the front end and a lock (5b) at the rear. This can be released, either manually or using a sensor which measures the load on it.
