New casein-derived peptide with growth promoting activity, useful as additive for eukaryotic cell cultures and for recombinant protein production

Peptide (I) that promotes growth of eukaryotic cell cultures: (i) comprising His-Gln-Pro-His-Gln-Pro-Leu-Pro-Pro-Thr (Ia; (ii) a derivative of (i) with at least one amino acid (aa) replacement; (iii) chemically modified forms of (i) or (ii); (iv) a derivative of (i)-(iii) with one or more aa deletions or insertions; and (v) a fusion protein of (i), (ii) or (iv) in which the additional aa do not affect growth-promoting activity or are easily cleaved. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) DNA (II) that encodes the fusion proteins of (v); (b) recombinant expression vector containing (II); (c) prokaryotic or eukaryotic cell that is transformed or transfected with (II) or the vector of (b); and (d) producing (I) of (i), (ii) or (iv) by culturing cells of (c) to produce a fusion protein, from which the additional aa are then cleaved.
