PURPOSE: A color cathode ray tube is provided to avoid hardness deterioration of a frit glass at an interface due to chemical reaction between Cr of the frit glass and alloyed metal of a shadow mask support and reduce inner residual stress due to change of the thermal expansion coefficient of the frit glass. CONSTITUTION: A color cathode ray tube comprises a frit glass(12), a shadow mask support, and an Al2O3 metal oxide film(20). The Al2O3 film(20) is formed at the interface of the frit glass(12) and the shadow mask support and used as a transit layer for increasing hardness of the frit glass(12). Aluminum is heated at an aluminum furnace to obtain Al2O3 metal oxide at the surface of the aluminum. The obtained Al2O3 is mixed with vehicle and sprayed over the inner surface of the shadow mask support to form the Al2O3 film(20). Then, the frit glass(12) is injected into the inner surface of the shadow mask support to fuse the shadow mask support to a panel. The thickness of the Al2O3 film(20) is equal to or less than 2 micron.
