An automatic accounting system which detects the positional information of a mobile article to judge the fare system of an area, in which the mobile article is moving, on the basis of the detection result, and which comprises a first judging device for judging the state of the mobile article. It is, therefore, possible to suppress the increase in, or the large size of, facilities to be installed on a place other than the mobile article, and accordingly the rise in the cost to be expensed for the facilities to be installed on the place other than the mobile article. With the first judging device being carried on the mobile article, moreover, the state of a specific area can be judged even if the state of the mobile article in the specific area is unchanged. At the starting time of the automatic accounting system, therefore, the mobile article existing in the specific area before the system is started can be judged for its state. Therefore, the state of the specific area can be judged real-time and accurately.
