A detector (111) detects the driving speed of a brushless DC motor (109), based on a rotor position detector (110) output. A sensor (112) compares the detected speed with the previously stored value to sense the laundry amount, and a current command unit (113) applies a d-axis current command signal to a current controller (103), according to the detected speed.
