PURPOSE: Provided are the extract of polygonatum and a composition including the same as an active ingredient and having hypocholesterolemic and hypoglycemic activities. CONSTITUTION: The extract of polygonatum is obtained by the steps of: extracting polygonatum with organic solvent at 80 deg.C for 48 hours repeatedly 1-3 times; filtering the extract to obtain methanol layer; and removing methanol contained in the methanol layer then extracting it with hexane, chloroform and n-butanol sequentially.
