The invention relates to a device for measuring the consumption of gas, water, heat or similar, comprising a measuring mechanism which is connected to a counting mechanism by a gear. These types of devices are known, however the cost of reading the gas, water or heat meter is considerable. In addition, there is a risk of transmission errors. The invention addresses this problem by providing a shaft which is engaged with the counting mechanism or the gear and at whose other end means for providing or controlling a remote display or remote scanner are located.
