PURPOSE: Provided is a method of preventing or treating cartilage damage by administering a gamma-aminobutyric acid(GABA) analog. CONSTITUTION: The gamma-aminobutyric acid(GABA) analog has the characteristic of being an inhibitor of cartilage damage, and is a compound of formula(1), wherein R1 is hydrogen or linear or branched lower alkyl, and n is an integer of from 4 to 6. A pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating cartilage damage, comprises a cartilage damage treating effective amount of a GABA analog, and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier, diluent, or excipient.
