VULCANIZING AGENT CONTAINING MAGNESIUM AND CARBON FOR MOLTEN IRON

PURPOSE: A vulcanizing agent for removing sulfur among molten iron is provided to increase vulcanizing performance, to reduce amount of the agent to be introduced by comprising calcium oxide as a major component and additionally containing carbon and magnesium. CONSTITUTION: The vulcanizing agent comprises 5-10wt.% of carbon and 10-20wt.% of magnesium component and the balance of calcium oxide as a main component based on the total weight of the agent. The agent is used in a common vulcanizing process comprising immersing a lance into the molten iron and blowing the vulcanizing agent in a powder form together with transportation gas(e.g. nitrogen gas) in the molten iron to remove sulfur component because the agent has benefits of low cost, easy management and reduction of loss of fireproof material and harmful gas generated.
