<p>Apparatus for welding together mating surfaces of two thermoplastic parts which have non-planar shapes, and which may have different melting temperatures. The apparatus comprises supports holding a series of parallel shafts with hydraulic cylinders for adjusting the axial position of the shafts. A heating block is fixed to the end of each shaft, and a metal strip has locations spaced along its length which are each attached to one of the heating blocks. The strip has a non- planar shape suitable for making surface contact with the non- planar surface, the strip being detachable from the heating block and being replaceable with another strip having different shape characteristics. The metal strip has a flexibility which allows it to be bent into a non-planar shape suitable for making surface contact with a non-planar surface by movement of the shafts by the hydraulic cylinders.</p> |
