METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR SPREADING ERROR IN COLOR REPRODUCING SYSTEM

PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for spreading an error in a color reproducing system are provided to introduce a concept of maintaining and reinforcing boundary lines to the existing error spreading algorithm to prevent deterioration of resolution and boundary lines. CONSTITUTION: An error propagated for a central pixel to be processed is added to an input image, to generate a correction image. Quantization is performed for the correction image in accordance with the format of a predetermined output device. A boundary line for each pixel of the input image is detected in a boundary line detector(35) to generate a boundary line intensity signal. The correction image before the quantization, a quatization error generated from the quantized data, and a signal obtained by multiplying a predetermined scale by the boundary line intensity signal are added up, to obtain a spreading error to be propagated to adjacent pixels. A predetermined weight is added to the spreading error and the spreading error is propagated to pixels adjacent to the next central pixel of the input image.
