PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a high quality cast slab having little defect on the surface layer in a continuous casting of molten metal. SOLUTION: The molten metal is circulated in the vertical plane to the casting direction with a shifting magnetic field based on an electromagnetic coil for stirring the molten metal disposed at the outer periphery of a mold or in the mold and further, at a meniscus part. Further, the accumulation of inclusions onto the cast slab surface is restrained by circulating the molten metal in the parallel plane to the casting direction with the electromagnetic force based on a solenoid-state electromagnetic coil disposed at lower part than the outer periphery of the above mold or in the mold and further, the above electromagnetic coil for stirring the molten metal.
