PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aluminum oxide coated tool having stable quality of a cutting characteristic by improving adhesiveness of both boundaries of a bonding layer disposed between an oxide film mainly composed ofαtype aluminum oxide and a non oxide film as the ground (a substrate-side film) and in directly contact with both films, mechanical strength of the bonding layer itself, and mechanical strength of the oxide film itself mainly composed ofαtype aluminum oxide. SOLUTION: In this aluminum oxide coated tool, a single layer film made of one of carbide, nitride, carbonitride, oxide, oxycarbide, oxynitride, and oxycarbonitride of metals of groups IVa, Va, and VIa in the periodic table or multi-layer film made of two or more of them, and at least a single layer of the oxide film mainly composed ofαtype aluminum oxide are formed on the surface of a substrate. The bonding layer containing oxygen is disposed between the non oxide film and the oxide film, and an X-ray diffraction highest peak face of the oxide film is (110) face.
