PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform the operation of decomposition treatment safely by surely preventing the leakage of an acidic gas or the overflow of an alkali solution from a tank. SOLUTION: The apparatus for decomposing an organic halogen compound, which is provided with a reactor 15 for decomposing the organic halogen compound and a waste gas treating tank 41 for neutralizing an acidic gas generated by the decomposition in the reactor 15, is equipped with a timer for clocking time from the start of decomposition, and a controller for outputting alarm and stopping the decomposition after the lapse of a prescribed time from the start of the decomposition based on the time clocked by the timer.
