PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a filter member for a diesel particulate filter whose heat resistance and durability are excellent and capable of lowering a production cost and to provide a diesel particulate filter using the filter member. SOLUTION: In the filter member for the diesel particulate filter obtained by forming a felt laminated body by randomly laminating an inorganic fiber and constituting the member by using the felt laminated body, the inorganic fiber is constituted of a fiber in which surface is composed of silicon carbide, a silicon carbide component is gradually lowered towards the central part and the central part is composed of a carbon component.
