PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem on the occasion of preparing stretched canvas that a usual practice of holding and stretching canvas or paper by means of a stretcher such as pliers requires grasping power and physical strength, imposes a burden on the hand and the arm and results in serious work, since a holding part is apt to slip, and when the canvas for a work of large size or a number of pieces thereof are stretched, the burden increases, which causes a slack of the canvas. SOLUTION: Needle-shaped projections are fitted to the lower side of the holding part and thereby the burden imposed on the hand and the arm can be reduced. By stretching the canvas on the principle of a lever, with attention paid to the degree of power, on the basis of the conception of hitching the canvas on the needle-shaped projections and pulling it rather than grasping it by the holding part, the canvas having the tension not yielding to the pressure of painting can be prepared. Thereby the burden on the hand and the arm can be lightened.
