PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing basic organic nitrogen-containing compounds by reduction with lithium aluminum hydride, capable of carrying out decomposition while controlling occurrence of heat and hydrogen even in the case of large amount of mixture, not forming precipitation during process period, not forming crust or block during decomposition, carrying out phase separation without formation of slime or emulsion and capable of carrying out the above reduction in high reagent concentration and using anα- hydroxycarboxyl group-containing substance and/or anα-aminocarboxyl group- containing substance in a smaller amount than an amount used by a conventional method. SOLUTION: This method for producing nitrogen-containing basic organic compounds comprises adding the reduced mixture obtained by reduction with lithium aluminum hydride to an aqueous solution in which substances containingα-hydroxycarboxyl and/or alpha-amino-carboxyl groups are dissolved, hydrolyzing the mixture and allowing the reaction mixture to form two phases that are separated at a pH of the aqueous phase of from 7 to 12.
