PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To economically provide a metering roll of a roll coater which needs no special heat treatment to improve hardness and is excellent in corrosion protection property of a substrate, discoloring resistance and scratching resistance. SOLUTION: The metering roll of the roll coater which is incorporated into a paper machine of a papermaking machine and is exposed to coating liquids used in a papermaking process such as a coat liquid and a sizing liquid, has a chromium plated layer at its outermost layer and has a nickel-tungsten alloy plated layer consisting essentially of nickel at a lower layer thereof directly contacting with the chromium plating. Coating thickness of the chromium plated layer is within the range of 5 to 100μm, coating thickness of the nickel-tungsten alloy plated layer is within the range of 10 to 200μm and content of tungsten is within the range of 10 to 50%.
