PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a diene compound in a high conversion rate and in high selectivity without causing a metal precipitation due to an elimination reaction of an allyl compound such as 3,4-diacetoxybutene-1 or 1,4-diacetoxybutene-2. SOLUTION: This method for producing a diene compound is characterized in that an allyl raw material compound containing at least one group selected from an acyloxy group, hydroxy group, a halogen, an OCO2R' group, an OSO2R' group and an OPO2OR' group (R' is an alkyl group or an aryl group and may contain a substituent group) at the allyl group is subjected to an elimination reaction in the presence of a catalyst containing a metal of the group 8 to the group 10 of the periodic table and an organophosphorus compound.
