PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mat susceptible to biodegradation under the natural environment. SOLUTION: This mat 1 comprises mat layers 2 and 4 each having a disaggregated phytocellulosic material and covering layers 6, 8 and 10 each comprising biodegradable fibers and put on at least one side of the mat layers 2 and 4; wherein the biodegradable fibers of the covering layers 6, 8 and 10 are intermingled with the cellulosic material of the mat layers 2 and 4. The mat 1, because of comprising the phytocellulosic material, is susceptible to biodegradation in a short period under the natural environment such as outdoors or in soil, resulting in being composed or the like, therefore being suitable as a mulching mat or mat for weeding.
