PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a honeycomb structure having excellent wear resistance at the end surface of an opening part while maintaining merits as a thin wall type honeycomb structure, such as low pressure loss, and to provide a method for producing the structure. SOLUTION: A reinforced section wherein a cordierite powder is carried is formed at least one opening end surface of a cordierite base material having a honeycomb structure.
