PURPOSE: An error spreading device in a color image output system is provided to reproduce a color close to the color of an input image through color correction, gamut mapping and error spreading. CONSTITUTION: An error spreading device in a color image output system includes the first adder(21) for adding an input image to an error to be propagated for a central pixel currently processed, to output a corrected image, a quantizer(22) for quantizing the corrected image to provide the image to an output device, and a subtracter(23) for subtracting quantized data output from the quantizer from the corrected image to output a quantization error. The error spreading device further includes a color corrector(24) for storing a look-up table for color correction and outputting a display color error between a display color according to the output device and the quantized data, the second adder(25) for adding the quantization error output from the subtracter to the display color error output from the color corrector to output the entire error, and an error spreading filter(26) for propagating the entire error to the input image, giving a weight to the entire error.
