PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve safety by detecting any failure of a main power supply switching means and a plurality of heater power supply switching means in a washing and drying machine having a step of drying clothes by blowing hot air into an inner tank having the axis of rotation in the perpendicular direction. SOLUTION: The inner tank having the axis of rotation in the perpendicular direction is rotatably supported in an outer tank which is elastically hung in a case. A control means 51 controls the operations of a motor 8, a blower 15 for drying, and a plurality of heaters 16a and 16b, steps of washing, rinsing, dehydrating and drying and switching conditions of the main power supply switching means 33 for switching the power supply to the plurality of heaters 16a and 16b, the plurality of heaters 16a and 16b, and a first heater power supply switching means 34 and a second heater power supply switching means 35 for switching of each power supply. It monitors the output of a first heating operation detecting means 52 and a second heating operation detecting means 53 for detecting each operation of the plurality of heaters 16a and 16b.
