PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase an efficiency and a reliability by preventing a compression efficiency from lowering by reducing the amount of a refrigerant leaking from a clearance between a piston and a cylinder at the time of driving of a linear compressor and preventing a lubricating oil from deteriorating and the refrigerant from thermal decomposition by lowering the temperature of discharged refrigerant gas. SOLUTION: This linear compressor comprises a low stage cylinder, a low stage piston driven by a linear motor in the low stage cylinder, a low stage compression chamber formed of the low stage cylinder and the low stage piston, a high stage piston driven by the linear motor in the high stage cylinder, a high stage compression chamber formed of the high stage cylinder and the high stage piston, and a refrigerant gas route for leading the refrigerant gas compressed in the low stage compression chamber to the high stage compression chamber.
