PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a target distinguishing device for computing the velocity of a target in the case that the target is assumed to be a ground target in consideration of the movement of one's own aircraft and distinguishing the type of the target (air target, ground target) from the magnitude of the velocity. SOLUTION: The target distinguishing device is provided with a sensor 1 for detecting the directions (azimuth angle, elevation angle) of the presence of the target from electromagnetic waves radiated from the object target to be observed, a device 2 for detecting the location of one's own aircraft on which the sensor 1 is onboard for observing the target and computing the location (latitude, longitude, altitude) of one's own aircraft, a traveling velocity detecting means 4 for estimating the velocity of the target on the assumption that the target is a ground target on the basis of the directions of the target obtained by the sensor 1 and the location of one's own aircraft obtained by the device 2 for detecting the location of one's own aircraft, and a target determining means 3 for determining the type of the target (air target, ground target) from the magnitude of the velocity of the target estimated by the traveling velocity detecting means 4.
