PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication system capable of transmitting information having rich expression including colorfulness. SOLUTION: On the transmitting side, message data are generated by combining a routine sentence code determined on the basis of a routine sentence table stored in a ROM 33 together with a routine sentence specification code '[['and a color pattern code determined on the basis of a color pattern table together with a color specification code 'U7'. When the routine sentence specification code '[[' is received from the message data on the receiving side, a routine message is read out from a message code following the code '[[' on the basis of the routine sentence table, and when receiving the color specification code 'U7', color information is read out from the color pattern code following the code 'U7' on the basis of the color pattern table and the background color of a display part 42 or the message itself is colored and displayed on the basis of the color information.
