PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic electroluminescent(EL) element having sufficient luminance and excellent stability and durability and capable of being easily manufactured into a large area. SOLUTION: This EL element comprises one or multiple organic compound layers pinched between a pair of electrodes, at least one of which is transparent or semitransparent. At least one of the organic compound layers contains one or more kinds of hole transporting polyurethane made of a repeating unit including at least one kind selected from the structures expressed by general formulas (I-1) and (I-2) as a partial structure.
