PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device which uniformizes deformation of a fixing roller, particularly axial deformation in the middle and ends, makes the fixing roller member thin without causing damage to the fixing roller member due to metal fatigue, saves energy, shortens warm-up time, and prevents fixing failure and fixing wrinkle due to the formation of a nip of a proper width. SOLUTION: The fixing roller member is composed of a thin cylindrical elastic body. The fixing roller member is rotated while held at both the ends by hold members having inside diameters greater than the outside diameter of the fixing roller member. The fixing roller member is deformed by pressure, applied to the fixing roller member by a pressing roller member, so as to be widened perpendicular to the direction in which the pressure is applied. As a result, the fixing roller member is brought into contact with the insides of the hold members.
