PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain a longer operating life of a display device by effectively utilizing storage stability of a displaying state of the display device provided with a ferroelectric liquid crystal(FLC) as a display element. SOLUTION: A time period without any access from a display data supplying means 2 to a video memory 3 is monitored by providing an access monitoring means 6. When no access is detected for longer than a certain time period, i.e., no change is detected with respect to a present display content, supply of a holizontal synchronized signal to a display device driving means 5 is stopped with a display driving controlling means 4 and driving of an FLC panel 1 is stopped.
