PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To further enhance the reproducibility of a halftone image for satisfactorily maintaining the quality of the halftone image. SOLUTION: In an image recorder where a correction means (e.g., a density code generating means 5) adopting an error spread method corrects multi- gradation input image data and an image is recorded on the basis of the corrected image data, the correction means is provided with a generating means (e.g., a threshold changeover means 7 and a code setting means 9) that generates image data, each corresponding to area divisions by dividing the density and the gradation of the multi-gradation input image data by a prescribed threshold into area division data and generates image data, on which a prescribed screen pattern is superimposed and with an error spread means (e.g., a data correction means 8) that distributes the difference between the image data generated by the generating means and the input image data, corresponding to the generated image data to peripheral pixels.
