PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader that can reduce dispersion in signal levels of each photoelectric conversion element. SOLUTION: A wire 26, whose end face matches with each of chip ends 30, is formed integrally with wires 25 at the side of the chip ends 30 of photodiodes PD1, PDn at both ends of a layer, in which photodiodes PD1, PD2,..., PDn formed as a single line on a chip which is a component of the image reader are to be mutually shielded by the wires 25.
