发明名称 METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING OPTICALLY ANISOTROPIC OPTICAL WAVEGUIDE
摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing an optically anisotropic optical waveguide such that an integrated optically anisotropic optical waveguide can be easily manufactured. SOLUTION: Light pulses (at 800 nm center wavelength with 120 fs pulse width, 1 kHz repetition frequency and about 3 mm beam diameter ( half-value whole width)) from amplified titanium sapphire laser 1 are converged by an objective lens (NA=0.10) into a sample 7 (quartz glass having 3 mm thickness). The incident energy and the exposure time are controlled by a density filter (ND filter) 3 and an electromagnetic shutter 2. By disposing a polarizer 4 and a half wavelength plate 5 in the optical path, changes in the refractive index are induced by linearly polarized light in the desired direction. The polarization angle is represented by an angle from the y-axis. The quartz glass 7 is irradiated through the side face by a halogen lamp 8 and production of filaments and the induction process of permanent changes in the refractive index are observed by using an objective lens 9 with long operational distance disposed in the opposite side to the light source.
