PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem of appearance of undesirable phenomena in display characteristics such as contour blurring in a conventional liquid crystal display device due to temporal fluctuation of transmittance of the liquid crystal within a frame period when correction data to accelerate response of the transmittance of the liquid crystal are applied. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device is constructed in such a way that inputted picture data are memorized in a frame memory 2, the correction data to correct the response of the transmittance of the liquid crystal so as to accelerate it, based on a relation between the present picture data and the picture data of the proximate frame, are memorized in the correction data ROM(read only memory) 5 and the liquid crystal panel is driven with the output from the correction data ROM 5. The contour blurring of the display picture is prevented by setting the correction data in such a way that a time-average value of the fluctuation of the transmittance of the liquid crystal within a frame period coincides with the specified transmittance of the liquid crystal corresponding to the picture data.
