PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a good head characteristic by improving the soft magnetic characteristic of a metal magnetic thin film in a magnetic head including a surface having the metal magnetic thin film of a base material set in non- parallel to a magnetic gap. SOLUTION: Mirror polishing is performed on the main surfaces 11a and 21a of base materials 11 and 21 constituting a pair of magnetic core halves 10 and 20, and the surface roughness of each of these surfaces 11a and 21a is set in a mirror-finished state. Them, metallic magnetic thin films 12 and 22 are formed on the mirror-finished main surfaces 11a and 21a of the base materials 11 and 21.
