PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem that although the sector antenna at a base station has a fixed sector beam, utilization efficiency increases when the sector beam is subjected to adaptive control in view point of effective utilization of frequency required for accommodating recent increase in the number of users of mobile communication. SOLUTION: A receiving array antenna 301 comprises a plurality of receiving antenna elements 302 arranged circularly. A circular array excitation weighting calculating section 310 calculates a circular array excitation weighting 311 forming a desired antenna pattern defined by arbitrary beam direction and beam width and determines the excitation weighting of a signal received by each receiving antenna element 302. Since a desired receiving antenna pattern defined by arbitrary beam direction and beam width can be obtained, a variable beam array antenna can be constituted depending on the traffic environment.
