PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an electric field formed at a secondary transfer position from giving an adverse effect to the other processing operation and also to prevent an untransferred toner image on an intermediate transfer drum from being disturbed in an image forming apparatus by which a toner image formed on a photoreceptor is primarily transferred to the intermediate transfer drum and the toner image on the intermediate transfer drum is electrostatically secondarily transferred to transfer paper. SOLUTION: Many electrodes 5 split in a peripheral direction are provided at the intermediate transfer drum 102, and voltage for secondary transfer is applied to the electrode 5b positioned corresponding to a part Z at which the transfer paper 155 clamped by a pressure roller 103 is separated from the intermediate transfer drum 102 out of the electrodes 5.
