PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface acoustic wave device for an intermediate frequency having a small size and a wide passing band. SOLUTION: The surface acoustic wave device comprises a piezoelectric board, and a crossing finger-like electrode formed on the board. The board has a Ca3Ga2Ge4O14 type crystal structure and exists in a first region represented by a formula of Ca3TaGa3Si2O14 so that, when a cutting-out angle from a single crystal and a surface acoustic wave propagating direction are expressed by an Euler angle display (ϕ,θ,ψ), theϕ, theθ, and theψexist in a first region in which theϕis -2.5 to 2.5 deg., theθis 30 to 90 deg., and theψis -65 to 65 deg..
