PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer having an expansion mechanism which is capable of expanding (removing curling, wrinkling, etc.), recording media to a plane form while protecting their printing surfaces. SOLUTION: The device body has the expansion mechanism which can expand the media 3 to the plane form while projecting their printing surfaces 3a and a guide mechanism which guides the media along a prescribed transporting direction while positioning the media to a prescribed position. The expansion mechanism has transporting roller pairs 109, 110 and 111 which are respectively arranged on both sides in the transporting direction to the media and act prescribed transporting force on the media while coming into pressurized contact with the media and rotating in both side positions (both side margins of the media) deviated from the printing surfaces. The nip rollers 109a, 110a and 111a on one side among these transporting roller pairs are so constituted that their transporting force acts on the media while spreading at a prescribed angleθalong the transporting direction.
