PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide high pressure compression facility capable of securely cooling the inside of a cylinder to prevent overheating of a piston ring and a bull ring and reducing driving power when no-load operation is done even if an unload condition is continued for many hours and provide a no-load operation method therefor. SOLUTION: This high pressure compression facility is provided with a high pressure compressor 22 having a plurality of suction valves 8 with unloader an aftercooler 24 cooling gas compressed in the high pressure compressor, a check valve 26 exhausting the pressurized gas coming out from the aftercooler while preventing its back flow, a recycle line 28 communicating an outlet of the aftercooler with a gas inlet of the high pressure compressor, an opening and closing valve 28a provided in the recycle line, and a controller 30 for controlling the opening and closing valve and unloaders of the high pressure compressor. At no-load operation, a part of the suction valve 8 with unloader is put in an unload condition, and remaining suction valves 8 are put in such a condition that pressurized gas cooled while holding an operation condition is recycled into the gas inlet of the high pressure compressor through the recycle line 28 and circulates in the cylinder through the suction valves which are operating.
