PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To operate a diesel engine so that a plurality of prescribed components included in exhaust gas become prescribed values or less and to efficiently output a prescribed power to a drive shaft. SOLUTION: The operation of the diesel engine 22 is controlled by setting a target operation point on a control line which is formed by continuing the most efficient operation points out of an operation range where soot and NOx contained in the exhaust gas become reference values or less respectively, relative to the demand output of the drive shaft 90. The power from the diesel engine 22 is converted into torque by a motor MG1 connected to an engine output shaft 28 of the diesel engine 22 and a motor MG2 selectively connectable to the drive shaft 90 or the engine output shaft 28, and the excess to or the shortage from the demand output is adjusted by the output from the motor MG2. This constitution can make the exhaust gas cleaner and improve the fuel consumption.
