PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely discriminate whether a unit such as a consumable unit is a new one or not without being deceived and also to easily recycle it. SOLUTION: A response code obtained by performing the code conversion of discrimination information outputted by the CPU 11 of a copying machine main body 1 by a set logic is returned to the copying machine main body 1 by the code converter 27 of a processing unit 2. The logic of the code converter 27 is made changeable, and a first logic is set at a shipping time and is rewritten to a second logic under the control of the CPU 11 after the start of use. A first normal conversion code and a second normal conversion code respectively obtained by the code conversion of a discrimination code by the first logic and the second logic by code converters 20 and 21 are obtained at the copying machine main body 1, and they are collated with the response code by collation parts 22 and 23. Then, the CPU 11 discriminates the state of the processing unit 2 based on wether or not either collated results are matched with each other in the collation parts 22 and 23. |
