<p>The system provide links between three different protocols. The interface component links together an external network operating with a first communication protocol, and input/output port which operates with a second communication protocol, and a bus operating with a third communication protocol. An internal network switch is provided, connected to the interfacing component, via the port, in order to transfer messages between different limbs of the internal network, and also to transfer messages between an internal network link and both the interfacing component and the bus. The interfacing component and the network switch may be connected together by the bus, or may be connected via the input/output port. The interfacing may co-operate with a a PCI bus, and ATM external network and a UTOPIA (Univeral Test and Operations Physical Interface for ATM).</p> |
