PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a storage vessel of spent nuclear fuel having a means monitoring a leak of vessel, without requiring a penetration hole in a lid, which can cause sealing failure and to exchange a detection sensor more easily than conventionally, and to provide its monitoring method. SOLUTION: The spent nuclear fuel storage vessel comprises a first lid- blocking and sealing an upper opening of the vessel body containing spent nuclear fuel in the inside, stress gauges at a plurality of parts on the upper surface of the second lid for detecting stress change due to pressure change in the pressurized space formed between the first lid and the second lid-blocking the upper opening of the vessel body outside the first lid and a leakage monitoring means receiving electric signal from the stress gauge in the monitoring controller.
