PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive and easily adjustable optical pickup whose characteristic variation is small and reliability is high, in which the number of light receiving and light-emitting semiconductor chips and the number of package devices are decreased. SOLUTION: The pickup is provided with a first package 24 containing a light receiving semiconductor chip 16 and a red LD chip 29 which has a light emitting face directed to the same direction as the light receiving face of the light receiving semiconductor chip 16, and a second package 5 containing an infrared LD chip 15 the direction of the light emitting face of which and the light emitting wave length are different from those of the red LD 29. The light emitted from the red LD chip 29 is led to an optical disk by means of a unified type optical prism 26 which has a first and second reflection faces 17 and 20, the light reflected from the optical disk is led to the light receiving face of the light receiving semiconductor chip 16, and further the light reflected from the optical disk which is irradiated with the light emitted from the infrared LD chip 15 is led to the light receiving face of the light receiving semiconductor chip 16. |
