PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording and reproducing device which records and reproduces interleaved data by reducing the number of interleaving times by constituting a code having a length longer than 2m-1 by using an elliptic curve code on a GF (2m) by improving the error correcting ability. SOLUTION: A code having a maximum length of 2m+21+m/2 can be constituted when the m is an even number of >=3 by correcting and coding errors by using an elliptic curve code on the GF (2m) of a finite field. When the code having the length is used, one sector of 512 bytes can be divided into two interleaves.
