PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact torque sensor capable of improving sensitivity, simplifying structure, and reducing cost. SOLUTION: A restriction-side rotating plate 11 made of a conductive non- magnetic material rotated with a first shaft 3 is arranged between a passage-side rotating plate 12 made of a magnetic material rotated with a second shaft 4 and first and second coils 33 and 34 for generating magnetic flux which generates alternating fields. The second coil 34 is arranged inward in the diameter direction of the shaft of the first coil 33. When both shafts 3 and 4 are elastically and relatively rotated, in the axial direction of the shafts, the absolute value of an output change of the first coil 33 due to a change of the overlapping area between a first part 41a of the opening 41 of the restriction-side rotating plate 11 and the passage-side rotating plate 12 becomes equal to the absolute value of an output change of the second coil 34 due to a change of the overlapping area between a second part 41b of the opening 41 and the passage-side rotating plate 12, and the codes of the output changes are reversed. Transmission torque by both shafts 3 and 4 is detected on the basis of the difference between both output changes.
