The heat exchanger for a motor vehicle's auxiliary heater has an overheat protection sensor (20) installed in an outwards orientated boss (18) formed on the heat exchanger's inner section (12) and which fits in a sealed opening (19) in the outer section (11). The boss is formed in one piece with the inner section of the heat exchanger. Both sections of the heat exchanger are generally in cup form with the boss formed on the base (12A) of the inner section.
