PURPOSE: A system and a method for providing traffic information using location registration information are provided to prevent the overload of a system and to efficiently supply traffic information by requesting an MSC(Mobile Switching Center) to register the location of a specific MS(Mobile Station), extracting location registration information from response information transmitted to the MSC from the MS, and creating traffic information. CONSTITUTION: A system for providing traffic information using location registration information comprises MSs(100), an MSC(230), a traffic information server(400), and a traffic information DB(500). The MSC(230) is connected with the traffic information server(400) through a communication network(300). In response to a location registration request from the external, each MS(100) transmits a response signal, including an MS ID, to an associated base station(210-216). If the traffic information server(400) requests the MSC(230) to register the location of a specific MS(100), the MSC(230) catches the location of the MS(100) through a VLR(240) and an HLR(250). Then the MSC(230) transmits a location registration request signal to the MS(100) through an associated base station controller(220,222) and an associated base station(210-216). In response to the location registration request signal, the MS(100) transmits response information to the MSC(230) through the base station and the base station controller. The traffic information server(400) extracts location registration information from the response information transmitted to the MSC(230) and generates traffic information.
