PURPOSE: A positioning service method using a guard band frequency is provided to catch subscriber locations using guard band frequencies, the rest left after allocating frequencies according to data rates and service bandwidths. CONSTITUTION: A client transmits a location request message to a specific terminal. In this case, the location request message is transferred to the specific terminal through a positioning system server, a base station controller and a base station(501-504). The specific terminal, receiving the location request message, enters a mode to receive a positioning system signal from the base station(505). After receiving the positioning system signal(506,507), the specific terminal generates location information data(508). Then the specific terminal judges whether it itself can calculate its own present location(509). In case that the specific terminal can calculate its own present location internally, the specific terminal calculates its own present location and transmits the calculated location information data to the positioning system server through the base station and the base station controller(510-512). The positioning system server informs the client of the calculated information data(515). However, in case that the specific terminal cannot calculate its own present location internally, the specific terminal transmits the generated location information data to the positioning system server(510-512). The positioning system server calculates the location of the specific terminal and informs the client of it(515).
